VVK runs two hostels at Dhundikhap and Chakai Chalang in mud house with 120 and 15 boarders including teachers. There are a few free-boarders in both the hostels.
◆ Apart from imparting Education to children from Nursery (Ankur) to Class VIII in Bengali Medium in the New School Building constructed with the fund from Govt. of Japan through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Project, VVK has recently constructed a library room with fund received from two Japanese companies and Japanese citizens. Books have been donated by various well wishers of VVK.
◆ The school children are given lessons in various Arts like drawing music, songs and Bratachari etc. It also conducts educational excursions for the students. The children are also imparted training on traditional folk dances, and organize coaching in Football and other sports.
◆The Computers is used to give the school children exposure to modern technology.
◆ VVK organized an Awareness programme on Utility of Renewable energy for the women of the locality in collaboration with Haldane Society for Eco-research and Enterprise Development, sponsored by West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency.◆ VVK organised a Workshop On Sustainable Integrated Organic Agriculture for Drought - Prone Zones Of West Bengal Sponsored By Planning Commission, Government Of India, New Delhi.◆ The National Innovation Foundation, Govt. of India, arranged a programme with VVK on “Shodhyatra”to study the bio-diversity of the region and document the associated traditional knowledge of the people of the region for their creativity and innovation.◆ Funds from MPLAD has been allocated for electricity and development of water source as well as irrigation facilities for cultivation purpose at Chakaichalan. Infrastructure for Vocational Training will also be developed. A EDP on Food Processing has been conducted successfully with 39 prospecting entrepreneurs. It is envisaged that continuous vocational training will be arranged at this center.
◆ Besides running two education centers and hostels, VVK has taken up programmes on Kitchen Garden at the school premises, Mushroom Cultivation, Dairy, Horticulture, Chalk Production Unit Low Cost Housing Building Materials with locally available materials under HUDCO, Govt, of India, Construction of Low Cost Sanitary Latrines, TRYSEM Programme on Mason Training, Motor Cycle Repairing and Gate Grill Manufacturing Training under DRDA. In the land of Chakaichalang with available resources were utilized for demonstration to meet the nutritional and health care needs of the family.
◆ From time to time it has organized Seminars for teachers and students of local schools for popularization of science and technology and motivation camp for promotion of smokeless chullah.
◆ VVK has accomplished Medicinal Plants cultivation in a project “ STANDARDIZATION OF CULTIVATION PRACTISES AND PROCESS TECHNOLOGY FOR QUALITY PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT OF SELECTED MEDICINAL PLANTS” of Agricultural and Food Engineering Department ,Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur assisted by National Medicinal Plant Board, Govt.of India.
VVK also organizes programme on Dirtribution of Books,clothes and food to the poor tribal people of Ayodhya Hill in collaboration of Ram Krishna Mission and other sponsored organizations. Every year Clothes and food like Rice and Dal was distributed to more than thousand families.
◆ Ambulance Service: With the help of the Ambulance we have been able to serve all the patients to seek proper medical aid in time. Patients are taken to places such as Purulia District Hospital, Hospitals at Ranchi, Tata, Asansole etc.
◆ Medical Camp: Eye camps were organized in Chakaichalang and Ajodhya hills. In both the areas approx 500 patients were treated with their eye problems and free spectacles were distributed among the deserving patients. We are grateful to the doctors and benevolent workers for the service they rendered.
It has already formed Forest Protection Committee in collaboration with Forest
Department, Govt. of West Bengal with assistance of West Bengal Social Welfare Board,
the Kendra has organised women education programme last year.
